Fiberglass BS476-7 Class 1 Fire Test

BS 476-7 is a test method within the UK standards for fire tests on building materials and structures, used to determine the surface spread of flame classification of products. The relevant requirements of the BS 476-7 fire test standard are as follows:

BS 476-7 Test Procedure:

a) Ignite the pilot flame.

b) Within 5 seconds, swing the sample holder and place it into the test position, then immediately start the timing mechanism, marking the beginning of the test.

c) Extinguish the pilot flame within one minute after the test begins.

d) Stop the test when the flame front reaches the 825 mm reference line or after 10 minutes, whichever occurs first.

BS 476-7 Classification Criteria:

Based on the above BS 476-7 fire test method and classification criteria, to achieve Class 1 requirements for fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP), fire-retardant coatings can be applied to the surface to enhance its high-temperature resistance and fire protection capabilities.
